Description | About SGS Vancouver SGS Vancouver Diving ULC is centrally located on the north shore of the Port of Vancouver’s Inner Harbour. Vancouver is Canada’s largest port, the third busiest and most diversified port in North America. From this base SGS Vancouver provides a full range of underwater ship inspection, underwater ship maintenance, and underwater technical repair services 24/7 to all ports in British Columbia and Alaska and—through our US West Coast offices in Seattle/Port Angeles and Los Angeles/Long Beach. SGS Vancouver was formed in January 2017 when Subsea Global Solutions acquired All-Sea Underwater Solutions, a diving company with offices in Saint John, NB, Halifax NS, Port Angeles WA, and Busan, South Korea specializing in pioneering innovative new underwater ship repair procedures and equipment since 1978. SGS Vancouver maintains a highly trained and skilled commercial diver technician and project manager workforce supported with a full range of specialized equipment for highly technical underwater hull and machinery repairs previously only available in dry dock. Working with the SGS Technical Teams we are continually looking to improve our existing services and develop new procedures and equipment to ensure SGS continues to be “The One Source for Global Underwater Solutions”. Underwater Scrubber/Sea Chest Installations & RepairsSGS has developed solutions for ships needing to install scrubber system afloat at lay berths where dry docking is not available, expensive or time consuming. New sea chest and overboard discharges can be installed while the vessel is still in service as a pre-planning step for scrubber installation in a lay berth. New spool pipe can be installed and coated to protect spool pipe from corrosive scrubber wastewater afloat while the vessel is in service or during the off-hire time when scrubber is being installed to meet classifications society’s requirements as permanent fixing. Prior to a new sea chest being installed and welded to the hull internally SGS can attach a heat bearer on the shell plate as required by class so the internal welding can be done afloat. On completion and pressure testing of the new sea chest SGS diver / welded using pre-made negatives of the sea chest grating and with a hydraulic track saw can precision cut the hull opening for the gratings. The grating mounting hardware can then be targeted and welding in place using class approved wet welding procedures. Since the first scrubbers started coming online in 2012 in the cruise ship industry SGS has been solving the issues of new sea chest and overboard instillations afloat. In addition to new overboard spool pipe installation for scrubber discharges, SGS has also been involved with repairing and replacing existing spool pipes that were not properly protected when first installed. This can require a renewal of the spool pipe as a permanent repair to remove conditions of class or a blasting, built up welding in pitted areas and building up the pipe section with specialized coating depending on the vessel’s next scheduled docking. The customer has options to keep the scrubber in operation using the most cost-effective solution. Ship Seal Replacement & Repair Services Include:
Face Type and Lip Type seals can be completely renewed and serviced with Original Equipment Manufacturer approval same as dry dock. Face Type seals can be completely rebuilt "wet" where Lip type seals can be renewed, including the bonding of new seal rings, completely underwater using TransHab systems, the transportable habitats of Subsea Global Solutions. The TransHab system is a light weight, inflatable
habitat that is fitted around the stern seal between the stern tube and
propeller, thereby providing a dry environment large enough for two
technicians to carry out repairs. Using stock adapters TransHab is
designed to fit any seal arrangement, including azipod drives, with
liner sizes from 280mm - 1200mm. Certified Seal TechniciansProfessional Diver/Technicians trained and certified by the major seal manufacturers to carry out repairs previously possible only out of the water. Bonding new seal rings, removal or installation of spacer rings, and even complete replacements can be performed at anchor or during cargo handling operations without interference with the vessel's schedule. SGS is the Authorized Global Service Agent for: SKF Marine (Simplex Seals), the Global Service Partner for Wartsila Seals- JMT (Japan Marine Technology), Deep Sea Seals and Cedervall Seals. * Exclusive Service Agent - North America and Caribbean for Lagersmit Supreme Seals. * UW global service agent for SKF OEM Approved Underwater BondingAs part of the system development, representatives of various seal manufactures witnessed test bonding of seal ring samples inside the TransHab at a seawater depth of 12 m. Destructive testing of the samples proved strength values same as that of dry-dock bonding, resulting in the OEM approval and acceptance as permeant with classification societies. Fast ResponseTransHab systems, including electrically powered diving support equipment, are packaged and stored in several compact crates HAZMAT free, allowing them to be shipped anywhere by commercial airlines with little notice. Subsea Global Solutions has revolutionized the underwater methods of repair of rudders and stabilizers. By using underwater cofferdams (either atmospheric or hyperbaric), fully approved mechanical or weld repairs can be performed to rudders and stabilizers. If underwater removal or extraction is required for a rudder or stabilizer, Subsea Global Solutions floats damaged stabilizers or rudders away from the vessel using the aqueous environment as a crane. Buoyancy control solutions have been developed for underwater lifts up to 300 tons. Underwater seal replacement, including bonding of new seal rings, is possible for stabilizers without taking the vessel out of service. Permanent underwater wet weld repairs to eroded rudder surfaces and weld seams, dewatering of rudder blades and mechanical repairs to Hi-Lift rudders is all available globally through the expert technicians of Subsea Global Solutions.
